The effect of ulnar variance on the pisotriquetral joint

Pisotriquetral joint disorders are an important cause of ulnar-sided wrist pain but are often underrecognized in clinical practice
In our study we evaluated pisotriquetral joint subluxation and its relationship with ulnar variance:
We introduced new grading system for pisotriquetral joint subluxation. Pisotriquetral joint subluxation was more common in men than in women. Pisotriquetral joint subluxation was significantly less in the neutral and negative ulnar variance groups.
In conclusion;
Ulnar variance and gender may be risk factors for pisotriquetral joint subluxation by affecting force dynamics at the wrist joint.
